Rescue Me ID: 17-01-01-00240Carson (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Carson is a stunning white 2 year old German Shepherd who is a lean 85 pounds. He is an affectionate, loving and curious dog who will need an experienced handler to continue his training - as he had a very neglectful owner who provided little to no training or socialization early on. The work we have done with him so far has shown us that with patience and consistency, Carson will be a dream dog. Carson was pulled from a shelter on the central coast. Since poor Carson had very little socialization early on, he is in process of learning about the world around him, as well as learning proper house manners. He has learned to sit, and ... (Read More)is learning to walk on a leash. He has an insatiable curiosity which makes it a bit difficult for him to pay attention during training sessions, but is incredibly entertaining. He is extremely smart, and learns very quickly once he understands. He is a medium energy dog who will be devoted to the person willing to spend the time with him to develop a strong trusting relationship. Carson came into the shelter bone thin with a rope cinched around his neck. Because of this neglect/mistreatment he has a difficult time trusting (though he really wants to) and he needs an experienced handler. He is timid but protective - especially when it comes to food and treats. He is also very sensitive when it comes to his neck - likely due to that rope. Use of prong collars and choke chains is strongly discouraged. He must have a person who can be both gentle and firm. He may be trainable when it comes to cats, but he seems to have a strong prey drive, and we therefore recommend a home without cats currently present. He also would like an active household without young children. Carson loves attention, and this desire can be used to help him learn. He has successfully met other dogs, and could probably live happily with another submissive dog who will not want to dominate him. This could also help his training progress more rapidly. The adoption donation for healthy adult dogs is $300. Special consideration is given to the adoption of older and special needs dogs. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. All dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis If you are interested in meeting Carson please complete an adoption (or foster) application on our website below. She is not a barker although she does bark and alerts you to someone in the yard. She has been fed people food and that is what she likes. Dog food doesn't interest her much in spite of her thinness. She's a very smart dog and tends to figure out what you want. She would be a marvelous companion dog in a senior household where people understand her senior needs. Sheba's adoption donation is $100 because of her age and medical condition. We would be happy to do a long term foster where all her expenses would be covered for the remainder of her life. Rescue Me ID: 16-05-20-00507Monte (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Monte is a 9-10 year old long haired neutered male German Shepherd with a low to medium energy level. All he wants in life is to hang out with his people, go for short walks, two or three times a day, and to love and be loved. He hasn't had much love in his life and was evidently a yard dog who was ignored and neglected during a good part of it. He was debarked at some point, changing the sound of his bark and undoubtedly increasing his anxiety. He is house trained and very well mannered in the house. He enjoys car rides which often lull him to sleep. He enjoys short hikes of 30 to 40 minutes and loves being outside. He gets along well with ... (Read More)other dogs and enjoys people. He knows his basic commands but because he is a senior and his behavior is good, commands are rarely used. Due to his extreme neglect he developed a serious ear infection which is now chronic, meaning his ears need to be flushed every few days and he sometimes needs medication. Monte continues to be anxious at times and is on medication for it. A long term foster would have all medical expenses and food covered, so all the foster would need to provide is a lot of TLC. Monte is up to date on all shots and chipped. Monte resides in the 91942 zip code of La Mesa and needs a long term foster or adopter in San Diego to facilitate an easy transition. His adoption fee is $200. If you would like to meet Monte, please complete an adoption or foster application on our website at: http://www.happyheartsgermanshepherdrescue.org/applications.html If you would like to see our other dogs please visit our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HappyHeartsGSDRescue/ or our dogs page on our website: http://www.happyheartsgermanshepherdrescue.org/dogs.html (Less)
